Medicare supplement plans are also known by the alternate name of Medigap. The term suggests that the gaps in coverage inherent in conventional Medicare are specifically addressed by its supplemental offerings. There are numerous private companies and firms that offer Medicare beneficiaries with this additional coverage plan. Reports indicate that almost a quarter of Medicare adherents also have subscribed to Medicare supplementation.
Despite its name, Medigap insurance does still have limitations. There are a few services, procedures and treatments that they continue to not be covered or subsidized at all. Various assistive medical equipment fall outside the coverage plan. This includes hearing aids and glasses or contact lenses. Dental services are also not included in copayment or reimbursement policies.
The cost of hiring private nurses and care givers for any purpose will be shouldered entirely by the client. Medicare and Medigap beneficiaries will have to pay their service fees and salaries completely out of pocket.
Despite these limitations, Medigap does include some superb coverage addendums. These services stack with the standard insurance provided for the use of Medicare clients. There are three general categories of additional care that Medigap provides.
Tragic accidents and serious diseases can afflict people when they’re least expecting them. The worst of these require vast amounts of blood transfusion just to help you survive the ordeal. If you
compare Medicare supplement plans, you will see that any competent coverage contract will cover up to three pints of blood a year. This is above and beyond the normal blood allotment that the standard non-supplemented package provides.
With conventional Medicare, a patient will only receive up to sixty days of hospital care during the entire benefit period of your contract. That policy is clearly subpar when you
compare Medicare supplement plans that cover the sixty-first to one hundred fiftieth days. In addition, once you’ve used up all the days of your assigned hospital confinement, you get an additional three hundred sixty-five days of coverage that’s renewable for the rest of your life.
Some rudimentary insurance plans have a list of preferred health care providers. You are saved from expensive doctors visits only if you go these practitioners. In contrast,
compare Medicare supplement plans that have 20% copayment policies on all doctors and 50% for mental health related services to a standard Medicare coverage and you will clearly see Medigap’s superiority.
